Equipment

  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Whisk or fork
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Airtight container for storage
  • Garlic press or microplane optional, for fresh garlic

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup  sour cream
  • ¼  cup  mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice freshly squeezed
  • 1 tbsp white wine vinegar
  • ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 clove garlic minced or grated, optional
  • ¼  tsp salt
  • ¼  tsp black pepper
  • ½ cup  crumbled blue cheese Gorgonzola or Roquefort preferred
  • 1-2 tbsp milk or buttermilk to thin, optional

Instructions

  • Prepare the base:
In a medium bowl, combine sour cream and mayonnaise. Whisk until smooth.
    Add acidity and flavor:
Mix in the lemon juice, white wine vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic (if using).
  • Season:
Add salt and black pepper. Taste and adjust to your preference.
    Incorporate the cheese:
Stir in the crumbled blue cheese. For a chunky texture, fold gently. For a smoother consistency, mash some of the cheese into the dressing.
  • Adjust consistency:
If the dressing is too thick, stir in milk or buttermilk a tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
    Chill:
Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together.

Cooking Tips:
  • Cheese matters: Use a high-quality blue cheese like Gorgonzola, Roquefort, or Danish Blue for the best flavor.
  • Make it your own: Adjust the tang with more lemon juice or vinegar, or add a dash of hot sauce for extra kick.
  • Smooth or chunky: For a smoother dressing, blend the mixture in a food processor. For a rustic texture, keep the chunks.
